is a part of the Unity in the City ministerial team; he leads our Sunday services twice each month.  One of the most in-demand speakers in the Unity movement, Rev. Ed is known for his enthusiastic metaphysical approach to the Bible, and for his understanding of the Hero's Journey as a roadmap for our individual spiritual unfoldment. His most recent book, Kingdom Come: A Guide to the Book of Revelation was published in 2012 by Unity Books. He is also the author of The Secret According to Jesus, a guide to the Sermon on the Mount. He answers Bible questions submitted to the international Unity website.

Rev. Ed's Reflections

Dear Friends,

We’ve all heard the warning “Be careful what you pray for - you may get it!” Clever, but inaccurate. There is no “maybe” about prayer. If you pray for it, you will get what you truly pray for. The need for caution lies in the fact that we will get what we truly pray for, which may not be our presumed intent.
Jesus addressed this challenge a number of times. What he said, in effect, is that the law of God is direct and clear. “Thus when you give alms, sound no trumpets before you as the hypocrites do, that they might be praised by men. Truly I say to you they have received their reward… And, when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners, that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and lock the door and pray in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you” (Matthew 6:2-6).

The law of God responds to the energy of prayer, not the words. In fact, the most powerful prayer experiences are those beyond words.
If our true prayer purpose is just to impress people with our piety, we will impress at least some people. But because we are not seeking spiritual gain, there will be none. Ours will be like the house built on sand - impressive, perhaps, but with no solid foundation.

Today I let my prayer energy move from words into silence. I release what I think I need and I concentrate on my spiritual Truth.  I affirm that within me all prayer is answered perfectly, and words are superfluous.  And so it is.

Blessing's,
Rev. Ed
