Rev. Ed's Reflections

Dear Friends,

Home, one poet wrote, is the place where, when you go there, they have to take you in.  They have to take you in – not because they’re forced to, but simply because it’s where you belong.

The Prodigal Son, at his lowest ebb, decided that things would be better at home, even though he felt he had forfeited his right to be there.  ‘I don’t deserve to have my home back,’ he thought, ‘but even working there as a slave would be better than the mess I’ve made of my life.’

He rose out of the pigsty in which he was working and returned to his father, and is welcomed back and accepted without question—not as a slave, but as the beloved son he had always been.  The truth is, none of us ‘deserve’ our homes; none of us have earned the right to be there.  It is simply our home, our birthright as the creative offspring of a loving God.

And where is ‘home?’  It’s wherever we are.  We are always at home wherever God is, and God is present within us – expressing as us – wherever we may be.

Today I affirm that wherever I am, I am at home.  Because wherever I am, the Presence of God is with me.  Thank You, God!
Blessing's,
Rev. Ed

Maiyim's Update On The Rickie Byars Concert Last Week

On Wednesday evening, September 5th a good contingent from Unity in the City made our way to Unity on the River in Amesbury for the Rickie Byars concert. Rev. Dave Tomkinson and Irene and other familiar faces met us with warm excitement. Rickie's concert was of course wonderful and at least as much a sing-along as a concert as we all joined in raising our voices in praise. Our music director Alicia Ortiz was a "Rickie virgin" as Rickie says, and thrilled to meet her and hear Rickie in person, as she and Martine love singing Rickie's songs, which are often a big part of our joy songs. A great feeling of connection emerged.

In the picture, you see Rickie surrounded by Jeff Jones with his wife Leslie Salmon Jones on the far right, Char Caver, Martine and Alicia, Karen and her husband Keith, and Maiyim. Shirah also joined us, although she is not in the picture.
